On 2 June 2012, Clydebank Asbestos Group were the recipients of THE QUEEN’S AWARD for VOLUNTARY SERVICE.

This award is also known as an MBE for volunteer organisations.

The award was given for “Supporting Victims of Asbestos Related Illnesses”.

We as a Management Committee are delighted to have been recognised in this way, but realise that it also belongs to all of our members who have supported us through the years.

We would thank those who nominated us for this award, particular mention to Denis Agnew, the previous Provost of West Dunbartonshire.

We would add our thanks to the support we have received over the years from politicians of all parties and others within the health and legal professions, Social Work Units and Finance Departments in West Dunbartonshire Council.

It has been a memorable few months.

Apart from this award, the group received the Scottish Health Award for 2011; our chairperson was named Clydebank Citizen of the Year.

It is particularly poignant that these things have happened in the year we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the group.

Despite these good things having taken place, we cannot allow ourselves to forget that our main objective is to continue the fight for truth and justice for all victims of asbestos related conditions.

We should also bear in mind the families of these victims and guarantee that we will give continued support.

With the help of you, the members, and our friends mentioned above we will continue this fight to ensure that justice is done.
