Current Progress April 2010

At the request of many interested parties, we are pleased to supply this short update as to the progress of the Memorial Monument.

Negotiations in respect of the site and building the sculpture are now at an advanced stage, and it is hoped to announce following our forthcoming planning application, that the proposed site has met the essential requirements of the engineering and construction people together with the support of the West Dunbartonshire Planning Committee.

We would also wish to point out, that we have been more than delighted with the support we have received in our efforts to achieve our goal in the building of this great Monument.

We have been fortunate in that the site owners, Dawn Construction, have agreed to donate the foundations and base for the Monument, and we cannot thank them enough for this wonderful gesture.  We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received in our funding appeal, and apart from the many personal donations, we have had a substantial donation from Thompsons Scotland Solicitors, who deal with the majority of our civil compensation claims, and also from the many branches of UNISON Scotland who responded to an appeal on our behalf from Mike Kirby, the Scottish Convenor.

We are still looking for funding, and any donation will be gratefully received and acknowledged.

You can see below a couple of images showing how the monument will appear at night with the illuminations,  These are printed with the permission of our artist and great friend of the Group, Tom McKendrick, who is world renowned in this field.

We will update the progress at regular intervals as we approach the final stages.  Once again, thanks to everyone who have been involved.
