About our New Website ...

Clydebank Asbestos Group have developed this website to provide a unique facility for victim support groups, trade unions, academics and others with an interest in some or all of the issues set out below;

  • The welfare of asbestos sufferers
  • Compensation & benefits
  • Legal issues & new legislation
  • Campaigns; national & international
  • New treatments & their availability
  • The presence of asbestos in the built environment
  • The legacy of past asbestos exposures
  • Prevention of future asbestos poisoning

This website will provide a much needed platform for asbestos sufferers and bereaved relatives. The aim is to develop an educational resource, to provide up to the minute information on issues which are normally difficult to access. This includes advice on welfare benefits and compensation. The facility has adopted an international perspective following the policies of Clydebank Asbestos Group which challenge the dumping of asbestos on developing world and call for a global ban on the mining and manufacture of all asbestos products.

The need for this facility became clear during an International Asbestos Conference was held on 27 February 2006 in Clydebank Town Hall. This was organised to promote the first Mesothelioma Day which was initiated by the British Lung Foundation. This event attended by over 400 delegates and observers was a resounding success It made a significant impact throughout the UK. A faculty of internationally-renowned contributors participated from Europe, South Africa, Canada as well as outstanding speakers from the UK. The occassion also experience a unique level of community participation in the discussions which took place from asbestos support groups, cancer patients, bereaved relatives and other concerned interests.
