On 14th November 2025, the doors of Clydebank Town Hall were opened to welcome 38 members, supporters and local politicians to Clydebank Asbestos Group’s Annual General Meeting. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on our achievements from the past year, share important updates with our members and reaffirm our commitment to truth and justice for asbestos victims.
We began with a welcome and introduction from CAG Chairperson, Maureen McGlinchey. Maureen paid tribute to Kate Ferrier, who volunteered with CAG for five years before she sadly passed away last year, and who is much missed by the CAG team. Special thanks were then given to former MP Tony Worthington for his steadfast support of CAG throughout his parliamentary career, and his dedication to securing rights for all asbestos victims.
Updates on the work of the charity were given by Strategy and Development manager Rachel Gallagher and Client Support Lead Adele Kane. Rachel shared the fantastic news that £629,959 of benefits were awarded to our clients over the past year, and civil damage payments reached a record high of £3.3 million. Adele provided a breakdown of where our clients this year were exposed to asbestos and noted some potential emerging trends in exposure patterns. She also highlighted the success of the members’ coffee mornings and invited everyone to the next one, which was to be held at the newly opened Clydebank Museum.
We were thrilled to welcome a wide range of speakers at our AGM this year. Douglas McAllister MP and Marie McNair MSP shared about how they have been using their influence in Westminster and Holyrood to advocate on asbestos issues. Digby Brown Solicitor Euan Love gave us an update on the legal side of things, sharing a few case studies and discussing where the current challenges lie. We were so grateful to Depute Provost Hazel Sorrell for overseeing the re-election of the trustees and office bearers of CAG for the upcoming year.
After the formal business of the AGM ended, sandwiches, tea, coffee and biscuits were served, providing a great opportunity for CAG members, supporters, volunteers and staff to continue the conversation over lunch.
2024-2025 has been a very successful year for Clydebank Asbestos Group, and this AGM gave us a chance to reflect on our successes and look ahead to the upcoming year, and our ongoing mission to bring about truth and justice for asbestos victims. Thank you to all who attended!
