New coordinator for Clydebank Asbestos Group

Updated: Nov 12, 2021

Operation update from Margaret Waddell, Chair

We at Clydebank Asbestos Group (CAG) are proud of the high standard of service we provide to all who approach us for assistance.

The one thing all of our clients have in common is the diagnosis of an Asbestos related disease. We recognise that this is what brings us together. However, we are very conscious that each client is unique with their own individual circumstances and needs.

Our staff and volunteers are trained to identify the best ways in which to address any issues, health and otherwise, which are presented.

Our coordinator Theresa Jones has been in post for almost 3 years. She has without doubt, to quote Martin Docherty Hughes MP, “breathed new life into the Group” bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Sadly, for us it is time for Theresa to retire and she will be leaving her post on the 24th of November 2021. Thankfully she is very happy to remain as a volunteer, post retirement. We appreciate that she is prepared to continue to share her knowledge and experience with us for the benefit of our clients.

She leaves things in the very capable hands of Rachel Gallagher, our new coordinator. Like Theresa, Rachel comes from a background of working with cancer patients helping with benefits claims, appeals procedures, providing practical support and much, much more. Similarly, she too has acquired skills and knowledge honed whilst working with West Dunbartonshire Council in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support Team. She is trained in delivering excellent quality, person centred support.

Rachel is a Graduate of Glasgow University having attained a BA Degree in Politics and Social Policy. She also undertook further studies whilst employed by WDC/Macmillan Cancer Support Team and was awarded a Graduate Certificate in Welfare Benefits. As well as her professional skills and educational qualifications, Rachel brings a personal dynamic to her work. She is very pleasant, approachable and helpful. Her quiet, confident capable disposition will prove to be a major asset to the Group.

We are looking forward to working with Rachel who is ably assisted by our now full-time Administration Officer, Adele Kane. Both of whom will guide us through our very special Anniversary Year in 2022 Thirty Years On – and we continue to be proud of the enduring legacy which is Clydebank Asbestos Group.
