CAG’s annual International Workers Memorial Day (IWMD) event took place on Saturday 26th April.

IWMD is an international day of remembrance for workers killed, injured or made ill by their work. CAG’s IWMD event focuses particularly on asbestos issues and takes place at the International Asbestos Memorial in Clydebank.
Speakers highlighted ongoing campaigns to achieve justice for asbestos victims. In particular they drew attention to the ongoing Cape Must Pay campaign, which calls for £10 million to be paid towards mesothelioma research.
CAG Chair Maureen McGlinchey also took the opportunity to announce CAG’s new online memorial wall, which is now published on our website and is intended to complement the physical memorial in Clydebank.
As well as Maureen, the event heard from Provost Karen Murray Conaghan, Douglas McAllister MP, Marie McNair MSP, Euan Love of Digby Brown Solicitors and Esther O’Hara from Unite the Union. Thank you to all those who spoke and who attended our event, and to Donald Mackenzie for playing the bagpipes as guests arrived.
